Ortakoy Square & Coast - Photos, Attractions & Sights

Located in the Ortakoy neigbborhood of Besiktas district, by the Bosphorus shoreline, Ortakoy Square, without a doubt, is one of the most popular meeting points, a center for leisure activities and beautiful squares in Istanbul. Ortakoy Sqaure is also popular place with the young people and Istanbul sightseeing takers. You may find variety of lovely seaside cafes, restaurants, bars and pretty souvenir and antique shops surrounding the Ortakoy Sqaure. It also offers lively nights with its quaity bars and clubs.

Strolling around the lovely streets of the Ortakoy Square, shopping in its lively souvenir and antiques shops, taking Kumpir (baked potatoes) that is a specific street dish to Turkey, sitting along the seats on the seafront and watching the beauties of the Bosphorus, having a rest and drinking Turkish tea or coffee at the seaside cafes and restaurants, are top things to in Ortakoy Sqaure. Many locals prefer to buy baked potatoes from numerous cafes and eat their baked potatoes by the beautiful views of the Bosphorus.

As for sights along the Ortakoy Square; the Ortakoy Buyuk Mecidiye Mosque and Esma Sultan Mansion come first. The 18th century fountain in the square also worth a see.

You may also take the Istanbul Bosphorus Cruise with dinner and entertainment, made from the Ortakoy Sqaure, especially on the summer times.

Ortakoy Buyuk Mecidiye Mosque

Esma Sultan Mansion

Dating back to 1848, the Esma Sultan Mansion is a very beautiful mansion, that was built for the daughter of the Sultan Abdülaziz, as a marriage present. Between 1915-1922, the mansion was used as a Greek Schoold and warehous. Afterwards it had a big damage due to a big fire in 1875. The mansion was bought by the Marmara Collection group in the early 90's, restored and today is used as a venue for weddings, meetings and events.
